Tangled waves - tone on tone for elegant cards

Tangled waves - tone on tone for elegant cards

Hi everyone! It is Verity here again from Pretty Little Buttonso good to be back up on the blog again. One of the items I had to purchase recently was the tangled waves stencil which is an add-on to the month inspiration kit.You can also buy this separately, and I knew I had to get it! Although the pattern resembles waves, the pattern can lend itself to a range of cards no matter if it is sea themed or not. I used it today for a tone on tone look to create an elegant card.

Tone on Tone card details:

Start off by choosing the colour for your tone on tone card. I used navy card stock and therefore I chose a navy pearlescent textured paste to go with it. Adhere the stencil down over your card panel with some low tack tape. Using palette knife, spread your paste over the stencil for a nice even consistency. I didn't use the whole stencil, I applied a layer of paste over the centre to give a rough oval shape. I wanted this to frame the stamped image later. Leave this to dry whilst working on the rest of the card.

To create the focal image, I created a distress oxide background with red/coral colours with ink smooshing. Coral and Navy is a great colour combination. Once this was dry, I heat embossed the dreamcatcher in Penny and fussy cut this out. This was foam mounted to the middle of the card panel. I added two small sentiments using Alabaster embossing powder on Raven Black cardstock and adhered these flat.

The panel was trimmed down and foam mounted onto a navy card base to give an 1/8" border. Lastly, I added a few sequins to embellish this card.

I love how this card came out. The tone on tone of the stencil gives an elegant touch to this card and the pop of coral really works well with the navy.
