Have a Blast! March Guest Designer, Jaycee!

Hi everyone! My name is Jaycee and I am so excited to Guest Design for Brutus Monroe for March 2019. For my first post, I used the BRUTUS MONROE- OUTER SPACE stamp set. I love astrology, astronomy... anything with the art of the cosmos, so I could not wait to create a card with an "out of this world" vibe with a clean and simple look. I was most excited about the swirling cloud image because I knew I could create a lot of movement on my background. So let's get ready for takeoff!

First, I created my background with BRUTUS MONROE ULTRA FINE EMBOSSING POWDER IN GILDED. I used an A2 panel of 120lb smooth white cardstock- I needed something heavier because I knew I would heat emboss this panel multiple times. This was my first time using Brutus Monroe embossing powders and I see why so many of you are fans. I made three stamped masks of the swirly cloud image using the BRUTUS MONROE MASKING PAPER. I concentrated these images on the top third of my panel and I made sure the swirls looked random.

Next, I used a scrap 80 lb smooth white panel and Distress Oxide ink in Broken China to create a blue to white ink blend.  After this panel was completely dry, I white heat embossed the cloud image three times with embossing powder onto my panel.  I made sure to enclose the gradient within the cloud images for some depth to the clouds.  I used another panel and stamped one of the spacecraft images in a black alcohol marker friendly ink.  I colored the spacecraft with alcohol markers and fussy cut this image as well as the clouds.

I trimmed down the Gilded heat embossed panel to be slightly smaller than my A2 card base.  I arranged my fussy cut elements on the top right portion of the card (this gave me a chance to cover up some of my embossing boo-boos...to be honest).  I used a little bit of Brutus Monroe Aqua Pigment in Pearl to highlight some of the swirls on the gold background; concentrating the coloring around the spacecraft and sentiment to highlight these elements on the card.

Before assembling my card, I created a narrow strip sentiment with part of the UPC image by masking off the barcode and only using the "Have A Blast" part of the stamp.  I propped up some of the clouds using foam squares on top of the gold embossed background.  To make it look as if the spacecraft is coming out of the clouds, I focused on getting the sentiment and the spacecraft in the background and a few of the clouds in the foreground.

I drove myself crazy with the masked background, but in the end the all the positioning and embossing was well worth it.  The Brutus Monroe Ultra Fine Embossing Powder in Gilded is just the right shade of gold for me--not too yellow and not too bronze.  I would love to hear what you all think about this card!  Leave a comment and if you would like to see more of my projects, I'm on Instagram and post on my Blog regularly as well.  Stay tuned for another card from me on the Brutus Monroe blog in March and I hope you all have the best day!
