Oh, deer!

Oh, deer!

Hey there, so glad you popped over to the blog today! It is Verity here again from Pretty Little Button, and I have a great Masculine inspired Christmas card for you today. Now I know, creating masculine cards isn't always easy and especially around Christmas time. We all love adding plenty of glitter, sparkle and shine to our cards. Now, there will be plenty of men out there who mightn't mind a bit of that, but we all know plenty of men that don't. So making Masculine Christmas cards can be a bit difficult.

Well, not today! The Oh, deer! stamp set is perfect for more masculine cards - I just love the expressions on all the Deers faces! So if you are ready, lets find out how I made the card for you today.

Oh, Deer! Card details:

This card is inspired by shaker cards, but to keep in with the theme of trying for a more masculine card, I left the shaker elements out of the window. I die cut the City Sidewalks Globe die out of a white card panel and set this to one side. To create the 'metal' casing to the globe, I die cut another out of silver card. Using scissors, I fussy cut out a thin outline around the second die cut window. I used glue to adhere this down around the white die cut window. To complete the window, I applied a sheet of acetate to the back side. This will help to create a snow globe look!

To create the scene inside the window, I stamped one of the deers from the Oh, Deer! stamp set in detailed Raven Black Ink. In addition, I also stamped another deer onto post-it note paper to use as a mask. I fussy cut the mask out and placed this over the top of the deer. I also used some post-it note paper to create a snow bank and placed this over the deer where I wanted the bank to be. All this preparation is key to keep the white of the snow and deer. I used distress oxides to create the night sky - broken china, salty ocean, faded jeans, wilted violet and black soot. When I was happy with the sky, I splattered drops of white gold pearlescent paint to create falling snow.

I removed the masks to reveal a lovely snowing night sky. I coloured in the dear with two Stylefile Markers - Walnut for the fur and Pastel Peach for the nose and hoofs. I foam mounted the window panel onto the card to add depth and dimension to the snow globe.

To finish of the card, I heat embossed the 'Oh, Deer' and 'Happy Holidays' sentiments in white onto black card and foam mounted onto the card.
