Neon Aqua Pigments with Guest Designer, Jessica Shier!
Hello everyone!
This is Jessica and I’m so exited to be a Guest Designer for Brutus Monroe! Thank you all for having me. One of the sets I knew I had to work with was the Super Sentimental set. I love the word art and the font in this one and knew it would pair nicely with a bold background.
As you can see I was inspired to make not one but 2 card designs. One of the things I’ve been seeing a lot this summer is neon colors. To achieve that look I tried out the Brutus Monroe Neon Aqua Pigments and can I say, WOW! These are sooo fun! They are UV reactive too, I didn’t have one of those lights but I love how they show up on a dark cardstock.
Using the Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat I used the dropper and dropped down four colors of Neon Aqua Pigment. I used colors that would mix well together like; Neon Red, Neon Yellow, Neon Blue and Neon Pink.
Once I had a good amount of color down, I smooshed an A2 size heavy weight black cardstock into the ink. Smooshing a few times to get a nice coverage, then I set it aside to dry, a little. I find it’s easier to layer inks like these when you let them dry a bit between layers. I love the swirl of color these inks leave behind on the glass media mat between smooshings.
While I waited for the Neon Aqua Pigment background to dry, I also used the inks with another piece of black cardstock. Plus a piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock. This time instead of smooshing to get a mixed look I decided to splatter each with the entire set of Neon Aqua Pigments. I love splattering and these pigments splatter so nicely on both the lighter and darker cardstock. I even mixed a few of the inks to create a purple color! If you look closely on the white splatter background you can see that detail.
For the Super Sentimental set I used a stamp platform and situated the stamps so that they would group together. I chose the “Hello Beautiful” and the “ I miss your face” because they fit so well with each other. Using Brutus Monroe Alabaster embossing powder on black cardstock I heat embossed the grouped sentiment. Then I fussy cut them out, leaving a bubble border.
I did the same for the second card, but this time I used 3 sentiments! I love how these all pair so well together.
I took all my Neon Aqua Pigment backgrounds and mounted them to a couple of Neenah Solar White 110lb A2 sized card bases. To pop up the fussy cut sentiment I used a few foam adhesive squares and attached it to the top left corner. I got out my stamp platform once more. I stamped a few of the smaller stamps with clear ink in the Super Sentimental set; the hearts and lips. Also, I used the same Alabaster embossing powder for those. While doing that I noticed that clear embossing ink shows/reacts very well with the Neon Aqua Pigment ink, so I left those as is and did not emboss those.
To add a few, what I call, party dot detailsI used an embossing stylus dipped in white Nuvo Drops. This might be a far reach but I think the background looks like a mountain… mountains have faces It’s a little punny, lol!
