Botanical Backgrounds with Guest Designer, Samantha!
Hello everybody! This is Sam and I’m so grateful to be a guest designer here on the Brutus Monroe blog this month. My style is usually pretty clean and simple with lots of white space and bright colors so the first projects I have to share with you are kind of a perfect reflection of me!
I love working with floral images (who doesn’t?!) and the Botanical Background stamp is so versatile. It beautifully fills a card front, but me being me, I had to find a way to make it simple!
I started by stamping the image on heavy weight white cardstock with a watercolor friendly ink, I then focused on my favorite part of the image – that rose in the lower right hand corner! I trimmed that section out for my focal point (it measures 2”x2.25”).
I colored the image with Brutus Monroe Aqua pigments. I used straight pigment just dropped out onto a craft mat and a slightly damp brush to blend. The colors I used on the flower were coral, pink and orange. The leaves were painted with green and yellow.
You’ll notice I didn’t color the entire image but I did add a butterfly from Butterfly Sentiments 2.0 colored in the same way with blue and yellow aqua pigments. I fussy cut the image and added it to my card using a bit of liquid glue down her “body” and foam adhesive under her wings to give her some dimension.
I finished by adding a small sentiment from Super Sentimental. That sweet little stamp could get lost in all the bigger sentiments in that set but it was perfect for this design.
Now I couldn’t very well throw away the leftovers from my original floral image – there was a lot of good stuff left and it was way too pretty for the trash!
Using a similar sized focal piece and the leftover aqua pigments from my mat, I made another coordinating card. The sentiment on the second card is from Butterfly Sentiments 2.0.
A huge thanks to everyone at Brutus Monroe for the opportunity to share with all of you! If you’re a big fan of white space and bright colors, you can find me on Instagram. Hope you have a wonderful day!
