Oh Deer! Pocket Cards & Gift Cards

Oh Deer! Pocket Cards & Gift Cards

Oh Deer!! Seems I’m on a pocket card roll!  They just make the cutest gifts for planner and memory keeper types in my circle. With the added pocket on the back, holding a gift card, there are sure to be lots of smiles around the house this year! And, honestly, there is nothing difficult about making pocket cards. Hats off to Brutus Monroe for putting this stamp set together. The detail is really great which means I don’t have to be an artist to make something cute!!

Simple really. Using water color paper, I stamped with Detail Ink in Raven, used a few watercolor pencils and a fine water brush from Brutus Monroe. I used white as the base and then a medium brown to pick up color where I wanted it. The noses are red but they look a bit hot pink in the pix. Maybe a sign that these poor deer are really hot messes and need to get their acts together before the big fly over! I was mumbling (well, swearing really) under my breath while fussy cutting, wishing I had cut the free digi cuts that go with these stamps.

For the pocket cards I cut 3 inch x 4 inch pocket cards from the black and white check pattern that shows up in lots of my planner sticker designs over in my Etsy shop.  As usual, it was printed on heavy white cover stock. Using my Silhouette, I cut snowflakes from the holly pattern taken from the Vintage Christmas! planner sticker series that I had also printed on cover stock. I attached the snowflakes to the pocket cards with double-sided stickier-than-heck tape, wrapped and bowed red and white twine to both pieces and then taped a reindeer and sentiment to finish each card off. I was wishing I had the Brutus Monroe Craft Glue with that little tiny nozzle when I was trying to tape those little antlers in place. But I made it work…in the end! I made a pocket on the back of the cards by cutting a piece of patterned cover stock a bit smaller than the pocket card and taped the sides and the bottom to the back of the card. Just the right size to hold a gift card!

And, there you go. Easy and just a few tools and materials and wide open for variations. Have fun!
