Floral Rainbow Watercolor Melt

Hi! I’m Niki, the lady behind cardstoq.com, and I’m delighted to be sharing this card with you today. I know it’s late in the year, and I probably should be making things with pumpkin spice and peppermint, but I just adore rainbow designs. For today’s project, I used a background I had made in the past that I was saving for just the right card.

Isn’t that just lovely?! And the rainbow colors are done with water based ink, so no heat or crayons needed here!

To start, I drew a line in pencil across the top third of the card front (where I was going to line up the rainbow piece) and stamped the floral design using the Inked Flowers stamp set. I also used a few pieces of masking paper to make the flowers look layered.

Once that was done, I set it aside to dry while I make the rainbow layer. To do this, I used Zig Clean Color Brush Markers to draw rectangles of different colors across the top edge of the paper. Then, I simply spritzed it with water and tipped my board a bit. Luckily, I still had these photos I could share with you from when I was experimenting with the markers!

The next thing I needed was a sentiment. I wanted to use white within the brightest rainbow area, but I didn’t have one that was suitable. To fix this problem, I unearthed my label maker and created a clear label with white text. I like the look of this because of the thickness of the label material. It makes the text look as if it’s floating just above the surface of the paper.

Then to add a bit of extra shine, I dotted some of my florals with Nuvo Crystal Drops in black, including one that I stamped overlapping onto the rainbow layer. I filled in any gaps with a black pen.

And here’s the finished card!

I want to thank you for popping in to read my post today. Be sure to come on back tomorrow for more fun with Brutus Monroe and friends!
