Embossed resist watercolour Butterfly background
Hi everyone! It is Verity here again from Pretty Little Button, so good to be back up on the blog again. I love to incorporate watercolours into my cards when I can and I thought the Butterfly Sentiment 2.0 stamp set was perfect for an emboss resist technique. I wanted to to use the st to create my own dreamy background paper for a bold sentiment to sit on. Whatsmore, Brutus Monroe Alabaster embossing powder works amazing well for emboss resist techniques. So, let's get started!
Embossed resist watercolour Butterfly background card details:
Trim a piece of Smooth watercolour cardstock to your desired size. Prep the surface with an antistatic tool to prevent powder sticking elsewhere then where you stamp. Select 2 butterflies from the set and repeatedly stamp this across your paper in Clear embossing ink. A stamp positioner is useful to speed this up and to align the stamps straight. However, you can still do this with acrylic blocks too.
If you are finding it difficult to see where you have stamped, cover with embossing powder as you go along. However, don't heat set this until the ned, to reduce the level of warping.
Once you have heat set the background, adhere the card panel down with some low tack tape to a flat surface. I use the tape to create an even white border to frame my pattern piece. This adds a mat layer without any additional bulk.
I wanted a subtly ethereal look to my background and therefore I generously coated the paper with water. This meant when I added drops of colour it would blend seamlessly and be quite diluted. This all helped to produce a soft subtly ethereal background. For the watercolour paints, I used a Daniel Smith watercolor dot chart to apply a variety of colours.
I allowed the background to dry naturally whilst I worked on the remainder of the card. Next, I die cut a sentiment with a die from my stash out of Raven black cardstock and black fun foam. To add a shiny dimension, I heat embossed the card die cut in Raven Black embossing powder several times and adhered on top of the foam die cut. I stamped an additional sentiment on Raven black cardstock with Alabaster embossing powder.
When the card panel was dry, I foam mounted this onto a black cardbase and added my sentiments. Lastly, I embellished with a few white Nuvo drops.
