Crossword Love

Hi! I’m Niki, the lady behind cardstoq.com, and I’m so happy to be here sharing this card with you today. Have you tried out the Uppercase Alphabet Outline & Fill stamp sets yet? They are so versatile! For today’s project, I used the Outline set to create a crossword-style card with the sentiment built right in!

The cool thing about this stamp set is with the sentiment I chose, there were enough letter images for me to arrange and stamp everything all at once. Of course, I used a stamp positioner to make it easier and to allow me to re-stamp in case I didn’t get a good result the first time. I did, though, and that makes this card super easy to mass-produce. 

Once I had my card front stamped, I used a sheet of masking paper and stamped the image again. This time, I used a craft knife to carefully cut your “love” and “you” (and I saved the middle part of the O). I laid the mask over the card front, lining up the letters. Now I was ready to blend some ink!

Using a blending brush and Distress Oxide Ink in Worn Lipstick and Squeezed Lemon, I blended over the open spaces to make the sentiment stand out. 

Once that dried, I added a bit of shading detail along the edges of the sentiment with a black pen. 

Then, I used a bit of dye ink mixed with water to add the flecks over the crossword with my favorite paintbrush. You can also use your fingers to do this if you like. 

And to finish it up, I trimmed up the crossword panel to 4” x 5.25” and matted it with a piece of dark pink cardstock.
