Steampunk Inspiration Box

Steampunk Inspiration Box

I have always found Steampunk Style fascinating, so when I learned that Brutus Monroe was creating a Steampunk Inspiration Box, I was thrilled! I immediately wanted to make a little punked out top hat. With the embellishments from the kit as well as a few items in my personal stash, I came up with this:

It actually came out better than I had hoped. I have never attempted a piece like this, but the assembly was actually a lot of fun!

I first turned to Pinterest to see what kind of top hat templates people used for their paper hats. There are many templates out there, and some of them free. I grabbed a simple design that I could easily recreate. If you dont want to print and hand cut your paper, you can always buy an SVG for your electronic cutting machine.

The template I chose was THIS ONE from Craftaholics Anonymous. They have a FREE PDF or SVG for you to use, so Id definitely recommend you hop over there and show them some love!

After I had the hat assembled and adhered together, I used some Glimmer Mist from Canvas Corp Brands to color my hat and give it a vintage, worn look. I also used the same color mists on both the paper bags from the Inspiration Kit, and the playing cards in the hat.

I glued the bag to the side of the hat and started to embellish around it. I used the die in the box along with some PENNY RINEA FOIL to create the gorgeous foiled gears. To adhere such a detailed die cut to the hat, I ran it through my Xyron sticker maker. I tucked one foiled gear over the bag, and another one behind. Then, I went to town with the gears, chain, and charm from the Box!

For a last touch, I added some twine around the bottom, and tucked in a few playing cards to the bag. I created these cards by cutting down some paper, rounding the edges, and then stamping a number and heart on them with some WAGON SURFACE INK

Now, I didn't even use all the goodies in the box! There is still a whole 6x8 stamp set full of fun gears, a robot, and a whole steampunk style alphabet. Such a fun set! There are also papers and layering pieces in the box. I grabbed some of the papers and created a few ATCs with my leftover pieces, as well.

Again, I sprayed the paper with Glimmer Mists, then I added some more die cut gears, this time using black paper. Then, I sewed around the edges.

I also used some of the EMBOSSING INK and PENNY EMBOSSING POWDER in the box around the edges to give more of a metallic finish to these cards.

I also layered more of the gears and embellishment pieces from the box onto these ATCs. Guess what? I STILL have more pieces left that I haven't used! This box is packed with goodies!

I also used the paper bags from the kit to stamp on and slip these ATCs into. If you look at the stamped images on the bags, you'll get a sneak peek of one of the new December Release stamp sets that will be available in store on the 30th! I will let you know that the upcoming stamp sets work beautifully with this INSPIRATION BOX. It's like they had that all planned out over at Brutus Monroe or something, right? ;)

I really could go on and on about this box. It is by far my favorite box that Brutus Monroe has come out with. If you are interested in this STEAMPUNK INSPIRATION BOX, don't waste your time! These boxes usually sell out fast!

Thanks for stopping by!
